I strongly agree that one language spoken worldwide would lead to better international relations. As for me understanding is the basis of peace. But does understanding mean just communicating in one language? Sometimes even people talking in their tongue language can not understand each other.
But let assume that it is easier to agree on something when using the same language. Now the other problem is arousing. Is it possible to teach all the people one language? We would need extremely high founds to achieve this goal; to reach each small village, to employ thousands of teachers, to provide learning materials. The process would consume a lot of money, effort and time.
One language spoken worldwide would make life easier. People wouldnt spent time on learning languages, we wouldnt need any more translators and dictionaries. Everybody would have equal chances to take part in conversation issues and to be heard.
But the idea of using just one international language would close the market of other languages, I mean language schools, press, translating companies. There would be only a need for this one chosen worldwide language.
The world would become poorer, because each language is something different, gives something to the culture and people. I think that a big variety of languages is our treasure which we have to keep, it is a thing which we got from our ancestors and have to pass.
I believe that speaking in one language worldwide is an utopian idea, it brings a lot of positive aspects as well as those negative.
